Adventures on The River

All participants must be able to swim 50metres confidently

The UK offers a huge variety of rivers to paddle, from easy flat sections to steep waterfall rivers, which demand great skill and confidence. Access is not to be assumed on UK rivers and a detailed knowledge is required not to jeopardise any current access agreements.

Kayaking

Kayaking

There are numerous specialist areas within the field of Kayaking from marathon racing to white-water playboating and surfing. This means that if you can paddle a kayak, the different environments you can enjoy are both exciting and numerous. Whatever your ambition we will teach you the skills you require.

Introductory Kayaking

Designed for ultimate beginners, a basic introductory course focussing on skills needed to steer the kayak and prevent capsize.

Beyond First Strokes

For those that have paddled a kayak before and want to develop their strokes and techniques.

Intermediate Kayaking

For those who have a limited amount of previous paddling experience or are in need of a refresher. Paddle stroke development, rescues, water safety, journeying considerations are all aspects that could be covered. The ability to roll a kayak is a highly useful skill and ultimately leads to increased confidence.

Rescue Skills

In order to be self sufficient on the water, it is vital to have the knowledge and experience to be able to rescue another kayaker, return them to their boat and continue. Boat to boat rescues, swimmer to boat, towing, equipment considerations and dealing with emergency situations.

Introductory Moving Water

Utilising some ‘easy’ stretches of moving water, this course will look at the skills required to operate safely and efficiently on moving water. Grade 1-2 water will be used. For those people local to Chester , the weir on the River Dee provides an excellent site to introduce moving water skills. For further information, please visit the River Dee Access pages.

White Water Rescue Skills

At some point, the ability to rescue a boat and swimmer will be required on moving water. Boat to boat rescues, carrying a swimmer and throwlines can all be practiced.

Running Rivers

The UK has a wonderful variety of moving water. This course will involve paddling rivers of grade 1, 2 and beyond. Your previous experience will dictate what rivers we paddle.

Classic Kayak Adventures

Descents of the best rivers, depends on your experience and ability.

Canoeing

Originally used as a method of transporting goods for sale, the open boat is a vessel which can be paddled solo or as a pair. The beauty of such transport is that relatively large amounts of equipment can be carried with relative ease, making it a great medium for multi-day trips. Courses can be run focussing on basic skill development lasting one or more days. The possibilities are endless for multi-day adventures in the UK and only constrained by your imagination and level of fitness! Examples include a 4 day descent of the Spey in North East Scotland, West to East through the Great Glens, and the Severn descent.
